In this case study we will examine one of the core problems with Google Maps and suggest how crowd posting can aid Google in solving the issue we will dive into.
Google Maps has a location accuracy issue, accounting for a large number of the negative reviews in the Apple App Store, Google Play and elsewhere. This creates a number of challenges for users, some of which can have life threatening consequences.
For our solution we will focus on crowd posting to confirm location accuracy. Additionally, we will use AI to connect specific data points to update suggested routes in real-time based on road construction permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and local county and state databases.
As a student, desk research was my approach in identifying user pain points and goals for the Google Maps solution. I also used this opportunity to better understand Google and its objectives and goals.
Below are the final screens of the suggested solution.
